The beginning of mining in the SAMCA Group dates back to the 1960s, with low-tech operations. Its great transformation took place in the following decade, with important investments in machinery and facilities. We are currently one of the most important national producers of leonardite and clay, and in its subsequent valorization for the fertilizer and ceramics sectors.
We strive to improve our relationship with the environment. In line with the group’s sustainability objectives, we apply best practices for the reclamation of affected areas at all our sites and process all extracted ore in order to reduce emissions during the subsequent valorization process.

Santa Marta Mining
Industrial minerals
It is one of the world’s leading producers of sodium sulfate, with the most complete range of bulk and packaged products, and has an annual production capacity of 625,000 tons. Minera de Santa Marta exports 80% of its production to more than 40 countries in Europe, North Africa, Asia and South America.
Anhydrous sodium sulfate is obtained from glauberite and thenardite at two sites in Spain, located in Belorado (Burgos) and Villarrubia de Santiago (Toledo). It is used in the manufacture of powder detergents, glass, paper, textile dyes, animal feed and the chemical industry in general.
Euroarce
Industrial minerals
It includes our raw materials division for the ceramics industry. Its sites also supply minerals for the glass, foundry, refractory, sports fields and agriculture sectors. Euroarce comprises more than twenty mining sites and valorization plants. The main minerals extracted and marketed are: clays, feldspars, kaolins, sands and micas. Euroarce Minería, Quarry Amparo, Minera del Duero and Sica are the companies dedicated to extraction.
Processing and commercialization in the main ceramic markets is carried out through Euroarce Materias Primas S.L. in Ariño (Teruel), which grinds, washes and calcines clays and kaolins; Euroarce s.r.l. in Civita Castellana (Viterbo, Italy), which manufactures pastes and glazes for sanitary ceramics; and SAMCA Onda and Euroarce Ceramics in Onda (Castellón), which specialize in the processing of raw materials and the manufacture of atomized pastes for ceramic floor and wall tiles.

The SAMCA Group began developing wind energy projects in 1995.
Currently, through the companies Molinos del Ebro, Molinos del Jalón and Molinos del Mediterráneo, it has wind farms in operation with a total power of 507.45 MW, being one of the main independent producers of wind energy, capable of satisfying the electricity demand of more than 400,000 homes with a safe, reliable and environmentally friendly supply.

In 2005, the SAMCA Group began developing projects to harness solar energy through thermoelectric technologies.
As a result of this work, through the company Renovables SAMCA, it currently has two Solar Thermoelectric Power Plants in operation called CST La Florida and CST La Dehesa, both located in the province of Badajoz and with a total installed capacity of 100 MWe, being one of the main independent producers of solar thermoelectric energy, capable of satisfying the electricity demand of more than 100,000 homes.
